Orthodontic Treatment
Orthodontics is a specialty of dentistry managing the development of the jaws and teeth. It is intended to prevent and correct malposition of teeth and malocclusions (improper bites). The proper bite is not only matter of aesthetics, but also the prevention of various dental and jaw diseases development, as well as diseases of other body systems.
Braces are no longer just for the kids!
Braces are no longer just for the children. Adult orthodontics is now a big part of our treatment plans, especially with the advent of the more aesthetic “invisible” braces. In many cases of malaligned teeth orthodontics is a preferred option.
The Orthodontists at our practice in London will discuss the range of orthodontic appliances available to you at your initial consultation. We embrace new technology and continue to evolve in our selection of appliances to offer you the best treatment options. Early treatment may involve custom fitted removable acrylic appliances which can be made in almost any colour under the sun, or alternatively made to be relatively invisible. Occasionally, fixed appliances may also be indicated. These braces are directly bonded to the outside surfaces of the teeth and may be clear or metallic (with or without colours which may be changed at each visit) and are historically the most common fixed orthodontic treatment option.
Traditional to invisible options
The thought of having visible braces for a period of time that could run to two or three years is naturally off-putting to some, we understand that. However, braces do not have to be the metal brackets and stainless steel wires you might be picturing; they can be far more discreet and almost clear. Whether teeth are crowded, too far apart or have shifted since wearing braces, we can help you gain a brighter, straight smile.
Traditional Fixed Braces
Also known as “labial braces”, these braces are directly bonded to the outside surfaces of the teeth and may be clear, ceramic or metallic (with or without colors which may be changed at each visit) and are historically the most common fixed orthodontic treatment option.
Fixed Lingual Braces
The braces are custom made in a laboratory in Germany for the individual patient and are bonded to the inner surfaces of the teeth.
Aligners
Aligner treatment consists of a series of nearly invisible, removable aligners that you change every two weeks for the next set of aligners. Each aligner is individually manufactured for your teeth, and your teeth only. As you replace each aligner, your teeth will move – little by little, week by week until they have straightened.
